Campaign Overview
Homelessness remains a critical and deeply concerning issue in Nigeria, affecting millions of individuals and families. Recent reports reveal that approximately 24 million Nigerians are homeless, representing about 13% of the nation’s population. The situation is even more severe in major urban centers like Lagos, where an estimated 70% of the city’s 14 million residents live in informal settlements.
Among those most affected are women and children, who face heightened vulnerability due to factors such as domestic violence, economic instability, and limited access to education. Alarmingly, about 8.6 million children in Nigeria are currently homeless, leaving them exposed to violence, exploitation, health risks, and deprivation of essential services.
In response to this urgent crisis, we are launching the 7 Days Sleep-Out Fundraising Campaign—a community-driven initiative aimed at raising the funds needed to establish the Reform Safe House and an inclusive Resource Center. These facilities will provide shelter, support, and sustainable pathways to empowerment for homeless women and children across Nigeria.
Reform Safe House
The Reform Safe House will serve as a sanctuary for only women and children facing homelessness, domestic violence, or other adversities. The children will be from age 12-18.

A temporary haven offering protection and essential amenities.
Comprehensive Support Services
Access to counseling, healthcare, legal aid, and basic necessities to help individuals stabilize and heal.
Resource Center
The Resource Center will be an integral part of the safe house, designed to empower individuals through education and skill development. Notably, the center will be open to all genders, welcoming community members to acquire valuable skills. It will offer.

Exposure to Crime
Without stable housing, women are more vulnerable to physical, emotional, and sexual violence, often from intimate partners or strangers.
Ritual Killings
In certain regions, cultural practices can lead to women being targeted for ritualistic purposes, increasing their risk of violence.
Sexual and Gender-Based Violence
Homeless women are disproportionately affected by various forms of violence, including sexual assault and domestic abuse.

How can I participate in the Sleep-Out event?
You can participate by registering through our website. Once registered, you will receive information about the event schedule, what to bring, and how to fundraise.
What should I bring to the Sleep-Out?
Participants should bring a sleeping bag if you have, a cardboard / cartoon box, comfortable clothing suitable for outdoor conditions, personal toiletries, and any necessary medications. Please avoid bringing valuables or luxury bedding items because of dirt.
Yes, the event is organized with safety in mind. Security agencies would be on ground. There will be designated areas for sleeping, access to restrooms, and staff and volunteers available throughout the night to assist participants.
Can I participate if I am under 18 years old?
No, individuals under 18 can participate unless with parental consent. We encourage families, schools, and community groups to join together for this cause.
How do I fundraise for the campaign?
Upon registration, you will receive a personal fundraising page that you can customize and share with your network.
Where will the funds raised go?
All funds raised will go directly to the establishment and operation of the Reform Safe House and Resource Center, providing shelter, education, and support services to homeless women and children in Nigeria.
